Will Allen and Justin Durant to Visit Valley Ranch

The news came out today from Bryan Broaddus of DallasCowboys.com that Allen and Durant are set to meet with the Cowboys on Monday. This makes perfect sense for Dallas since linebacker and safety are two of their weakest positions. The real question remains is how either if not both can sign with Dallas having only $102k under the salary cap?

Allen has played in the league since 2004 starting his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but has since played for the Pittsburgh Steelers for three seasons. While the move does make sense for a veteran presence in the secondary, he isn’t the type of defensive back that creates turnovers. He only has four interceptions in his career in which they all occurred during his first two season in the league. Although at this point in time the Cowboys don’t have the luxury of getting a safety the likes of Ed Reed.

Justin Durant seems like a more likely fit if Stephen and Jerry Jones can find a way to make a deal work financially. Durant would fit right in as an outside linebacker in this new scheme. Last season Durant recorded 103 tackles and 0.5 sacks with the Detroit Lions. Alongside Sean Lee and Bruce Carter, this could be a formidable linebacker group. This will not change the need for outside linebacker in the upcoming draft and the same could be said at safety.

I will post more details as news breaks on any information about the Cowboys upcoming Draft.
